April 12th - Haibun or maybe not - running
Haibun or maybe
not – running
I am running up the Broadway, now past what used to be
the Post Office some 80 years ago, there’s a lot of what used to be here in
this Garden City. Past Morrisons
supermarket, the beating heart now of town. Up Kennedy Gardens, it’s not called
that any more, I don’t know why... the grass is muddy sloppily wet, slippery
yet. Up past St Francis College for Girls and Gang Show theatre and £1 million
houses and to the first ever roundabout in the UK and who knows the world.
I
run like this
It’s cool
Cloudy and mists wisps are
about
The long lines of trees.
I run left onto the A505, that’s an A road. Daffodils are
everywhere, in the gardens and the verge and pretty red tulips, cowslips too;
trees in blossom, buds bursting green. Deep breaths, I am striding out
(downhill a bit now) just over 9 minutes, not a bad time on my watch.. shall I
go 3k or 5k?.. I do not decide until Spring Road and then..
I run like this (2 or 3 times
a week)
It’s cold
Breeze always in my face
East or South, North eddying
about
It’s a cryptic crooked cocky
chill
Without much decision I am turning left. That’ll be 3k
then. I’m going along the muddy, rooty path, careful of the hanging, dripping
branches that would sting my face. I am back along the Broadway and heading
home past the beautiful fountain spewing and gushing, foaming twenty foot into
the air. There.
I run like this
And others not dissimilar
But for April
It’s cold
Can we have some sun please?
April 12th:
3k in 16.47 minutes
