Finger up the nose

Early one morning just as the day was dawning

I felt something crawling

Up my nose.

Now.

They say that during your life, mouth open asleep,

You swallow at least three spiders...

And that earwigs go into your ear

Then into your brain I never fear.

But up your nose?

No.

I pushed up my finger and poked about

But try as I might it wouldn’t come out.

I blew on the cotton sheet (I made it discreet)

Then on hidden squares of kitchen roll

Blowing so hard I made a hole.

But still it itched and tickled and I imagined wriggled.

Up my nose.

And calm...

And relax...

And then..... gone?

Perhaps there was never anything there all along.

And try to go back to sleep....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
