April 3rd - That's life

That’s life

As you get older you learn acceptance
And appreciation of perspective in your life.
If you are lucky.
You accept the niggles, the pains, the rumbles and grumbles in your tummy, your groin, your chest    and in your brain.
And try to treat each and all with a considered continual disdain.
The perspective comes with knowing that it could be, and probably will get, a lot worse.

And you recognise some regular symptoms:
Oh yeah, you again...
That pain in the neck, oh, I’ve had that before.. it’s nothing.
Stiffness in the back... it’s only a bit sore..
Twinge in the leg.. just one little thing more.

Sciatica doesn’t shoot up and down your leg.
It just hurts and goes numb.
But get used to it, give it time
In a few months it will go.
Put it down to experience.
It’s something else you will know.

Hernia. Been there. Had that lump. And the op.
Standing up to go to the loo.

Ulcers are nasty little things.
Little sore spots in your stomach
The  gallstones can come and go, I know..
To be careful what you eats
irritable bowels don’t like fatty treats.

Pulling muscles in your back or your leg
It’ll happen again.
Rest for a few days; live with it, it will go.

Seems like there’s not a bit of me
That hasn’t gone wrong
Or ached or kept me awaked
Ever worrying me along.

Til the latest:
And floaters in my eye and my vision
Melding together in some sort of ocular collision.
Now I have tadpoles in my sight,
Swimming about from left to right.
Oh what a delight!
And they’ll be there perhaps always. Not just days.
But. I’ll get used to it.
That’s life.
