Tag line

There used to be a time when

Adverts were allowed to enthuse.

‘It looks good, it tastes good, and by golly it does you good’

Now, they have to prove and substantiate

No longer just idly pontificate.

Maltesers do not have ‘less fattening centres’.. patently..

Nor does a Mars help you ‘work rest and play’

That’s the sugar rush I’d say.

Up to fifty years ago in slogan land

Tag lines were rarely ever banned.

Smoking made you relaxed and calm

Never mind doing you any harm.

‘Ricicles were twicicles as nicicles’

And we knew ‘Red Bull gives you wings’

We were offered:

‘Hexachlorophene in the stripes’

That kept your teeth clean and white..

Later banned. (they weren’t quite right)

Our breakfast would go

 ‘Snap crackle and pop’

We’d whistle ‘Murray mints, Murray mints... too good to hurry mints’

And the Hovis bread tune

And we knew ‘Beanz Meanz Heinz.’

We regularly went to work on an egg

And it was 'finger lickin good’

And we didn’t leave home without it... as if we would.

I miss those adverts.  ‘They’re grrr..eat!’
